Put to the test at Pontis
Last March graduate Klaas de Jong completed his assignment to develop a testmethod that quickly shows the impact of process parameters to the mechanical values of composite laminates.
In the development of a composite product, the whole process from design to production has to be taken into consideration. To visualize the effect of manufacturing and other additions to the process, tests have to be carried out to determine the mechanical influence. Until now these tests were conducted by test institutes, but Pontis was looking for a simple and fast way to determine the influence of the manufacturing technique on the mechanical properties ourselves.
To cut a long story short: since late March Pontis is the proud owner of a small test facility for quick validation of properties. Of course certification of our composite products remains housed by renowned institutes.
And Klaas? He successfully graduated and started his engineering career per 1 April as a Manufacturing Engineer at Pontis.
Nexus of Wind Energy professionals: Pontis @ AWEA
Our Pontis USA team continues to grow. After incorporating Nick Stevermer a few months ago, we now have hired additional process engineering capacity to meet the market needs. We are accepting new design challenges, opportunities to support production and / or product launches.
Early May the wind carries Pontis USA to the Windpower 2014 event in Las Vegas. Hosted by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), WINDPOWER is the annual conference and exhibition for the U.S. wind industry. It’s the nexus of wind energy professionals who converge to generate actionable ideas for expanding the wind energy economy through technology and collaboration.
Come to Las Vegas, May 5-8, 2014 and be sure to meet us. We look forward to seeing you there!
Breaking down the barriers
For several years Pontis has an office in Beijing to serve the Asian market better and and build strong relationships in the region. During this time we have gained a considerable network, which is reflected in the distribution list of our newsletter.
To facilitate this growing group of Chinese relations, we have dedided to offer the newsletter in the Mandarin language henceforth. With this we aim to inform you better on developments within our company. Of course we hope you appreciate it and we welcome your feedback.
It is our hope and belief that our business and contact database will give reason to break down more language barriers in the coming year!
At the Leading Edge of Rotor Blade Development
The 3rd international conference “Advances in Rotor Blades for Wind Turbines” was held in Bremen at the end of last month. Rotor blades are decisive in the race for lower cost of energy and although we have seen much progress in structural design and manufacturing over the past few years, there is still plenty of room for innovation.
Therefore international leaders in the rotor blade industry gather in Bremen yearly to share and discuss the latest trends and innovations in this field. This year's conference focused on “Efficient ways to optimise the CoE throughout the blade lifecycle”.
After he himself acted as a speaker last year, Pontis Engineer Edgar Suselbeek attended the conference as well as a workshop Structural Design Rotor blades this time. He says: “If you want to stay at the leading edge of the development of next generation rotor blades, you cannot afford to miss this event. Bremen is increasingly becoming the place to meet the leading parties and to learn about the latest trends especially in XL rotor blade development”.
JEC Europe 2014 featuring The Netherlands!
Europe’s largest and most important composites trade event will take place in Paris, France from 11 to 13 March. The global composite industry will unite in Porte de Versailles to focus on the composites industries, specifically those in the Netherlands!
“Dutch companies and knowledge institutes in the high tech sector are renowned for their technological excellence. Combined with the Dutch aerospace industry and its strategically located cluster with over 100 companies, the Dutch high-tech systems and materials sector bolsters innovations in the areas of high-tech equipment, components and materials”.
Of course being Dutch we are proud to be “Guest Country of Honor” at JEC and eager to do justice to the attention for the Dutch composite industry. We will be there for the full 3 days and we’re very much looking forward to meeting you in Paris!
Please contact Pontis director Dirk Jan Kootstra to schedule a meeting.
