Pontis Day 2013: city on the Meuse
Every year right before the start of the holiday season, we organize the Pontis day: an informal get-together for the entire international Pontis team and their partners with the aim to catch up on a personal level and thank everyone for their hard work.
This year the Pontis day actually was a two-day event in which we enjoyed a wonderful guided tour through the beautifully lit centre of the city of Maastricht with its rich history. A vibrant city requires a vibrant program, so after the walk we went into the cellar for a wine tasting where we got superb wines presented. Red-cheeked we moved on to dinner and afterwards many of us enjoyed Maastricht’s nightlife. Breakfast meant the end of a very successful Pontis Day 2013.
Nick Stevermer joins Pontis USA
Pontis’ US team has recently been reinforced with engineer Nick Stevermer. Nick joins Pontis as a Composite Process Engineer and closely cooperates with our other Nick, director Pontis USA Nick Althoff, to serve the American markets and further shape our business in the region.
Nick will particularly focus on the development, support and optimization of new and existing manufacturing processes for cost effective production of composite structures for our customers. Next to serving our American clients, he will also support the Asian market.
Nick previously interned at Parkway Composites, working on advanced composite structures in the aerospace industry. He has a degree from the Composites Engineering program at Winona State University and a background with various composite manufacturing processes. Nick has hands on experience and sound understanding of the material selection, characteristics and composite manufacturing processes.
Welcome Nick!
Civil Engineering: Creativity Unbound
All over the world we can see beautiful rotorblades of our hands whizzing around. And although wind remains our first and greatest love, there is still so much more to explore in the world of composites. We are attracted by other markets showing a need for knowledge and experience. And they look good...
Pontis is increasingly being approached by parties in the civil indrustry who need help in the design and manufacture of composite parts. We're talking about bus terminals, train cars, gas tanks, lock gates etc. Our knowledge and experience with the properties and behavior of the material allows us to create functional and visually ingenious designs.
The attached picture shows a sample we recently designed and created in our in-house lab for a roof application. Pontis engineer Sebastiaan van den Berg: “I really enjoy working on these kind of projects. Design, architecture, materials, creativity and engineering: it all comes together. As the possibilities are virtually endless, you can let your creativity run wild and create beautiful structures with superior qualities”.
No conference without finance: EWEA Offshore 2013 in Frankfurt
As financing offshore is becoming more and more challenging, EWEA has chosen Frankfurt, home to the European Central Bank, as a venue for the world’s biggest meeting place for the offshore wind energy industry: EWEA Offshore 2013.
During the first six months of this year 277 new offshore wind turbines, totalling 1,045 megawatts (MW), were fully grid connected in Europe. Twice as much as in the same period in 2012 when 523.2 MW were installed. In addition, 268 foundations were installed and 254 turbines erected, all during the first 181 days of the year.
No wonder the supply chain for the offshore wind industry is evolving rapidly. And all key players will come to Messe Frankfurt from 19 to 21 november to demonstrate their latest products and service.
Pontis is exhibiting at EWEA Offshore as part of the Dutch Offshore Wind Cluster NNOW. Given the focus on finance this year, we will highlight the cost effectiveness of our solutions in the field of design, process development, prototyping and manufacturing. In addition we will showcase our expanding portfolio of offshore logistics solutions.
Please meet us in Frankfurt at the Holland Pavillion, stand no. 30C60 or contact us in advance to schedule an appointment.
Rendez-vous à Nantes
The 4th edition of the B2B meetings for composite materials will be held in Nantes' event center from November 6th - 7th. This 2day event brings together international users of composite materials and suppliers of parts and capabilities.
The use of composite materials is increasing in many industrial fields, such as aeronautics, naval, and ground transportation. A development we recognize at Pontis, as we increasingly get requests for composite applications from new markets.
Every year new players on the market can be found in Nantes. The composite meetings are the prime forum for tapping new opportunities, getting inspired and to jointly bring the composite industry as a whole to the next level.
We very much look forward to meeting you in Nantes!
