Flying start for Ernst Merselina
We are happy to welcome a new reinforcement to the Pontis team in the person of Ernst Merselina. Ernst joins Pontis in the role of Process Engineer and he will focus on the design, operation, control, and optimization of manufacturing processes.
Ernst was eager to enter into a new international challenge and that turned out to be very convenient. On his very first Pontis day Ernst flew directly to Canada to support our team over there. He says about his appointment: “My literally flying start in Canada is typical for the dynamics of this business and the team feel of Pontis. I’m looking forward to a bright future here”.
Ernst has a long background in process support and prototyping especially in the wind industry. He started his career as an engineer at GE Wind Energy and the past six years he was a production specialist at the CTC Group.
Pontis supports entrepreneurs in developing countries
Involvement and partnership are important values at Pontis. As a company we feel it is also very important to be socially involved and to work for a better world. Therefore we have become a company ambassador of Oxfam Novib. An organization that is committed to a world without poverty and equal opportunities for all. Like us, they take the power and capabilities of the people themselves as a starting point.
Oxfam Novib is committed to people living in poverty in developing countries. Thanks to their microfinance program people can grow into entrepreneurship, build their own company and build independent existence. This way people can build their own future and that of their country. As an ambassador, we support this.
The company ambassadorship Oxfam Novib is a network of companies and employees who work together for a better world. Do you want to join in the fight against poverty and become an Oxfam ambassador? Visit the Oxfam Novib website.

Made in Overrijssel: the bridge of 7 million
The province of Overijssel (NL) has allocated more than 7 million for a composite bridge over the Twente canal. Together with four other regional innovative companies Pontis is currently working on the design and realization of this particular bridge, which will be operational 3 years from now.
Rather than the usual benefits over a concrete bridge, the special thing about this bridge is the aim to build it out of customized, prefabricated composite parts. In this way, the components can be mass produced, which makes it a far more interesting business for all parties involved.
The five participating companies are brought together by the AMMON (Advanced Materials Manufacturing East-Netherlands) foundation created to join innovative forces in the region. The province of Overijssel aims to create a regional showroom of innovative projects, inviting the whole world to come shopping for sustainable innovations in the public domain.

Safely into the New Year
At Pontis we not only provide training: we ourselves can regularly be found in the classroom to keep our knowledge and skills up to date. Recently, the entire staff followed the VCA course. VCA is a Health, Safety and Environment diploma. With it, you indicate that you observe safe working practices while at the same time bearing in mind the environment, your own health and that of the employees who you supervise.
All of us have successfully completed the course, meaning we have knowledge of the latest requirements we have to comply with, know the applicable (European) legislation and regulations, know how to recognize unsafe situations and actions and how to implement measures intended to prevent accidents.
So again for 2014, we can ensure a safe way of working!
