Pontis, Lantor and Huikeshoven showcase PowerSHEAT mould at JEC Europe 2015
From 10 -12 March the unrivalled largest composites event JEC Europe will fill up 3 halls of Pavilion 7 at Paris Porte de Versailles. Together with the Dutch companies Lantor (nonwoven solutions) and Huikeshoven (electric heating), Pontis will showcase a demonstrator mould with integrated ‘’next generation’’ composite mould heating at JEC: a system that allows for uniform and close (direct) surface heating resulting in short ramp-up rates.
Lantor provides a nonwoven heating concept called PowerSHEAT. PowerSHEAT is a polyester fibre material with carbon like additives that can be easily impregnated with polyester and epoxy resin systems. PowerSHEAT can be an integrated part of a structural laminate. It can be connected to an electrical power source which will heat up the veil to a maximum of 160oc. For JEC Europe PowerSHEAT has been applied and integrated in the demonstrator mould. Pontis brought in its composites expertise and Huikeshoven managed the heating sytem.
Come and experience the advantages of this mould heating concept at Lantor’s booth (H17) and/or meet with us at JEC Europe 2015! Please schedule a meet up with one of our colleagues via info@pontis-engineering.com
Reducing cost of energy in Bremen
The 4th edition of the successful Advances in Rotor Blades for Wind Turbines conference starts 24 February in Bremen. Three years ago it was the first event to set industry benchmarks on blade design, composites and manufacturing processes. From the very start all key players in the industry were present, hence its success. This year’s conference is themed: Efficient ways to optimise the Cost Of Energy throughout the blade lifetime.
Rotor blades are decisive in the race for lower cost of energy, and the last years have witnessed drastic progress in structural design and manufacturing. While the industry is growing more and more mature, there is still room for innovation regarding new materials, load mitigation and standardisation of production processes.
As we all know, the Dutch watch their pennies. Maybe that too played a role in the second invitation for Pontis’ Project Manager Edgar Suselbeek to this high end forum to share his knowledge and experiences. On the first day of the event Edgar will highlight his views on “Challenges in global blade manufacturing”. On the second day Edgar will act as a discussion leader in the Group session “Potentials to optimize the production process”.

Pontis partners with WEG
WEG, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electrical equipment, will be partnering with Pontis on the development of its new 3.3MW Turbine. The Brazilian company already worked with us on the successful introduction of its 2.1MW turbine and wants to enter in a long term partnership with Pontis to storm the wind market.
During the development of WEG's first wind turbine the added value of Pontis has not gone unnoticed. Our experience, expertise and ability to manage complex international projects are an indispensable asset for WEG entering into a new market.
Lead Project Manager Edgar Suselbeek says: “We Dutch have a long history in wind energy and the purpose of this durable cooperation with WEG is to transfer our knowledge, expertise and technology to the WEG team. In this way the foundation is laid for further and accelerated development and innovation within both WEG and the Brazilian wind market”.
Pontis supports WEG in supply chain management and cost reduction projects. For example, Pontis established a local partnership with a Brazilian company to support WEG to be more efficient. Besides that Pontis will train WEG’s engineering team in general blade production, inspection work, field issues and special non-conformities.
Mr. Gualberto da Silva says: “The South American wind market, particularly Brazil, is growing at an incredible rate, and the initial market response to WEG’s turbine offerings has been very positive. The extensive capabilities of WEG combined with the industry expertise of partners like Pontis, puts us in a very good position for providing solutions for both current and evolving wind market demands.”
Challenging the premier league of blade development
At the start of this month the fifth edition of the international conference Wind Turbine Blade Manufacture 2014 took place in Dusseldorf this week. As wind energy markets are growing worldwide, this conference highlighted the latest developments in wind turbine rotors for maximum energy generation and reliability. The speaker line up for this year's conference was led by blade makers. Our project manager Edgar Suselbeek acted as a keynote speaker at this leading event in rotor blade development.
Edgar highlighted Pontis’ experience with setting up rotor blade manufacturing plants all over the world. He discussed the technical, cultural and operational challenges Pontis has conquered during these complex projects , shared our solutions and best practices and challenged the audience to engage in discussion and to come up with even better ideas.
The leading energy companies, wind turbine producers, blade manufacturers, design engineers, composites manufacturing experts, researchers, developers, materials and equipment suppliers of the world were present for this event. Edgar Suselbeek says: “This event really was top notch in terms of rotor blade development. I am very proud that Pontis was asked to share its knowledge with the premier league in rotor blades and it again was an inspiring event”.
