Exploring possibilities for Sino-Dutch cooperation
One day prior to the start of China Offshore Wind Expo in Shanghai, a Sino-Dutch Offshore Wind Seminar was organized by the Consulate of the Netherlands in Shanghai and the Dutch 'China wind consortium'.
Pontis Asia director Martijn van Breugel was closely involved in the development of this high-end event which was attended by key persons in this field such as Peter Potman, Dutch Consul in Shanghai, Mr. Shi Pengfei, vice president of CWEA and, Mr. Li Junfeng, President of CREIA.
The seminar was organised in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Chinese National Energy Administration (NEA) and the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs. The MoU signed in 2009, aims to enhance the cooperation between China and the Netherlands in the field of sustainable utilisation of energy resources.
The objective of the seminar was to explore possibilities for bilateral cooperation between China and the Netherlands in the offshore wind power. Chinese and Dutch experts presented developments in the sector in their respective countries and possible forms of cooperation were discussed.
“By bringing together all decision makers such as governments, businesses and experts, we aim to contribute to faster and better results in the cooperation between our countries. Yesterday’s outcome was very promising and follow up meetings are scheduled later this year”, says Martijn.
Pontis takes a stand @ Offshore Wind China 2013
At the OFFSHORE WIND CHINA 2013 expo, held from June 19-21 at Shanghai New International Expo Center, Pontis again joined forces with Dutch entrepreneurs by exhibiting at the Holland Pavillion.
Pontis’ Managing Director in Asia, Martijn van Breugel, was present: “The Offshore Wind Expo was as expected a bit quiet. But despite the considerable challenges and bottlenecks China's offshore wind power market is facing, the country still is the biggest and fastest growing wind-turbine producer in the world. So still much interest was shown in Pontis' new 75m blade design, our preforming technology and our latest offshore projects in which we designed and manufactured offshore structures, needed for the installation of the Borwin and Helwin converter stations in Germany".
“Ultimately, it all comes down to trust”
Pontis joins webinar on trading across borders
In conquering new markets, reliable information and the right contacts are essential. Entrepreneurs Dirk Jan Kootstra (Pontis), Philip Keckeis (TradeTracker) and Hubert von Heijden (Flexotels) shared how they handled this during a webinar of MKB Netherlands which aired last month.
Main purpose of this webinar was to support and advise Dutch entrepreneurs with international ambitions. In order to grow internationally, you need the right partners who can help you to enter other markets. How to find these partners, how to know if someone is trustworthy and which authorities can assist you when entering a new market: such questions were addressed by the experts and with over 95% of our activities abroad, Pontis can rightly be seen as an expert in international trade.
One of the striking conclusions of the webinar was that in building strong and lasting (international) relationships it ultimately comes down to something you can not buy or learn, but must earn: trust!
Pontis attends Narec open day
Pontis recently attended an open day at Narec. The National Renewable Energy Centre is an open‑access UK test and research facility in Blyth, Northumberland, England.
We had a tour of the several marine and wind facilities including a 100m blade testing facility and a 15 MW! turbine nacelle test bed. The event was well attended by representatives from academia, research institutions, Government and industry from across the UK and Europe who all participated in useful work groups and discussions aimed at advancing the scale-up, development and deployment of offshore renewable energy technologies.
We would like to thank Narec for inviting Pontis to participate. It was good to see the impressive facilities, meet the Narec research and development teams, and overall a useful event for the industry as a whole.
