Follow up Sino-Dutch Seminar in Beijing
One day prior to the China Wind Power in Beijing (15 October) a Sino-Dutch seminar will be organized during which Pontis will do a joint presentation with the Dutch industry.
This seminar is a follow-up of the seminar that was organized with CREIA last June in Shanghai. The aim of these meetings is to present our know-how and to achieve concrete cooperation with our Chinese counterparts.
You can still participate in the seminar on Tuesday, October 15th in Beijing. Please contact Mr Robert Schotema for more information.
Pontis in China Energy News
Following the sino-dutch offshore wind seminar which we reported on in the previous newsletter, China's largest energy newspaper pubished an interview with Pontis Asia director Martijn van Breugel.
China and the Netherlands have ambitious national targets to increase renewable energy like offshore wind. However, offshore wind developments in both countries are sluggish. Is it possible to reduce costs in offshore wind and at the same time improve quality?
Hot off the mould
Recently a newly developed rotor blade for the 3.5 MW turbine of e.n.o. energy systems GmbH came out of production. The 56 meter, 15-ton blade made of GFRP was transported from Germany to Dutch knowledge center WMC where it will be tested according to GL guidelines.
The completion of this first (test) blade for the eno 114 wind turbine is an important milestone in the development process. Not in the least for Pontis as we were commissioned to manage the conversion of the blade design to production.
Pontis was responsible for the project management of this one-year blade development project and we delivered a broad range of services to guarantee a seamless connection between client and production facility. The scope of the project included (shop floor) support during construction of plugs, moulds and blades and quality control of the manufacturing processes according to DFSS methodology.
Pontis project manager Edgar Suselbeek says:”We are pleased that with this real one stop shop solution we have been able to support our customer in obtaining certification for their newly designed blade and thus contributed to the realisation of the eno 114 turbine”.
Under Pressure: breakthrough in subsea connection
A leading subsea solutions provider has developed a new 6 MW motor for the energy supply of a submerged (deepsea) pump. The upgraded power and thus dissipated heat of this motor will place new demands on the insulation system.
And that’s were Pontis comes in: we support our client in finding the best solution for connecting the lead outs of the different phases of the motor. The requirements for this connection are strict seen the conditions on the seabed and the limited access for maintenance or repair. We bring in our moulding and production expertise to develop an all-resistant insulation solution for this connection.
The project runs for about a year now and the electrical development of the connection has been finalized. Pontis has evaluated different production processes and the best method is currently being implemented. In collaboration with a moulding company the mould is being produced to create and test the first samples.
Pontis’ Project Manager Sebastiaan van de Berg:” It is a great pleasure and inspiration to work on this subsea project. The best thing about our profession is that we get to work on innovative and sustainable technological solutions and at the same time devise clever ways to outwit the elements”.
Tailwind in Rio
Early September Pontis exhibited at the Brazil Wind Power conference and exhibition for the first time. This year's conference was about consolidation: despite the strong growth of the past three years the Brazilian wind industry had to deal with significant headwinds in 2012.
Maybe this was reflected in the event being noticeably smaller than last year. The organization registered 2120 delegates, with 620 attending the conference, and 120 exhibitors.
But people were more focused and more top people were present, making talking business better. Also Pontis had a remarkable good event resulting in several valuable new contacts and two serious leads for new business on the continent.
