Pontis co-develops the best Olympic tracking bike ever
Pontis is co-developer of a revolutionary track bike for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020. This new lightweight, aerodynamic bike will enable the Dutch Olympians to achieve faster times, as every bike is specifically tailored to each individual cyclist. The Dutch selection is therefore closely involved in the development process, driven by a multidisciplinary development team consisting of scientists, bicycle manufacturers, aerodynamics experts and … Pontis.
Dream team
Within this “dream team” Pontis is responsible for the optimum structural design, making sure all parts of the bike contain the ideal mix of stiffness, strength and weight for the Olympic riders. Pontis Engineer Rob Lokate and fluid dynamics partner Actiflow are creating the optimal design in aerodynamics and structural performance by working closely together.
Holistic approach
Rob says: “Normally, the individual components of a bicycle are designed separately. We think, however, there is a lot to gain with a fully integrated approach. By looking at the bike as a whole, we are able to determine the optimal features and materials of each individual component. This way we expect the bike to perform greater than the sum of its parts. In addition: all the necessary expertise comes together in this bike. A unique partnership that makes clear what this team is about: Tokyo Gold!
Introducing Sven Korver
The Pontis strategy aims to bring its composite expertise increasingly to markets outside the wind industry. We are making good progress here and in this context, we recently incorporated Sven Korver with whom we want to further expand our activities in the marine industry.
Born and raised by the water, sailing and (sailboat) racing whenever possible, the life of Sven Korver has always been dominated by wind and water. It was therefore not surprising that he graduated as a Naval Architect and then joined the Gerry Dijkstra office to design unique sailing yachts. After that Sven got the chance to do great projects in roles of design- and project management with various yards around the globe, with all sorts of yachts and commercial vessels. He brings this experience into his new challenging goal at Pontis: to further develop our Marine portfolio.
Sven says: “In this new challenge I can combine a few of my greatest loves: Technology, Wind & Water! I love the composite technology, I’d like to bring my expertise in tender- and project management to the wind team, and I’m an enthusiastic yachtsman and team player. I am already completely at home in the Pontis team and I am looking forward to exciting marine projects in 2018”.
Cheers to 2018!
We are already on the threshold of the new year. 2017 marked our 10-year existence and what incredible (technological) advances we have seen! We look forward to an exciting new decade and hope to serve you again with our composite solutions in 2018 and beyond.
From here, we would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for your trust, partnership and cooperation over the past year. We wish you wonderful Christmas holidays and a warm and successful 2018.
Cheers to the next year!
10 years of “high-end tinkering”
This month marks the tenth anniversary of PONTIS ENGINEERING. With pride and amazement we look at how we have grown from a startup into the established international engineering company we are today. A mature company, with a solid customer base consisting of both multinational top companies and local innovators. We have gained foothold in new, complex territories and are now increasingly bringing our know how to other markets such as the marine and civil industries.
A lot has changed over the past 10 years, but one thing will always remain the same: our passion for composites. Still, every day, our lab is the domain of enthusiastic Pontis inventors who are busy with, as we like to call it, high-end tinkering. Creating, experimenting, testing, analysing and searching for the best solution and materials: it is the foundation of our existence.
Today, we are grateful for our amazing team with their unwavering drive, togetherness and engagement with both Pontis and the customer. And we thank you, our clients and partners, for your confidence, inspiration and the opportunity to do great, exciting and innovative projects for you. We highly appreciate your committed and loyal partnership over the past 10 years and we hope to continue our cooperation in the years to come. Cheers to the next decade!
Mark Hiemstra joins Pontis
At the start of this year we have strengthened our team with Mark Hiemstra as Composite Manufacturing Engineer. Mark is an avid sailor who aims to combine his passion with his career. With a background in marine engineering, Mark gained extensive experience in the composites and yachting industry (Vittters). During his shipbuilding career Mark discovered the interesting features of composites. At Pontis he wants to further specialize in developing advanced composites for various industries. Mark is a valuable addition to our team, especially in view of our ambition to further expand our services to markets other than wind. Welcome Mark!
