TYGO: introducing the next generation (75m : 26500 KG)
Pontis is pleased to introduce its 75m wind turbine rotor blade to the market, named after engineer Edgar Suselbeek's newborn son Tygo. This IEC Class l rotor blade design is geared toward the 6MW class offshore wind turbines.
With this next generational rotor blade, our wind energy portfolio now ranges from 37m through 75m rotor blades. For TYGO we use conventional reinforcement, core, and resin materials to ensure a lightweight and cost-effective design. This IEC Class I blade is offered with a high modulus glass spar cap option, and conventional E-glass and carbon spar options are also available. Naturally we customize TYGO to fit your turbine specifications in terms of speed, power ratings etc.
TYGO is the latest design of Pontis’ four man strong in-house design and analysis team. They are dedicatedly working on intelligent structural designs, fundamental to optimizing composite solutions in terms of cost-of-energy and ease of manufacturing. For example: infusion time of the TYGO blade shell is one hour thanks to an optimized infusion strategy. Watch the simulation here.

Quality first for the world’s biggest wind producer
For the 3rd year in a row Pontis had a booth in the Dutch pavilion at the renowned China Wind Power (CWP)-Expo in Beijing. A home-game for us since we established our Asia office in the Chinese capital.
Prior to the CWP we attended a Dutch-Chinese matchmaking event, organized by 'China Wind' and China Renewable Energy Industry association (CREIA), hosted at the Dutch embassy.
"We look back at 2 fruitful events where we met old and new contacts. Many encounters resulted in concrete requests which we are currently following up", said Martijn van Breugel, Managing Director Pontis China. “Despite the fact that China's installed capacity will exceed 60 GW by year-end, the
Chinese wind market is temporarily cooling down a bit and focussing more on quality. This is creating new opportunities for Pontis because of our rich experience with Western quality standards and our 6-Sigma approach”.
We look forward to our 4th CWP next year. Zaijian! / see you later!
Pontis joins royal couple on economic mission to Brazil
Pontis is proud to have joined the largest trade mission in Dutch history with a delegation of 157 companies led by Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima. “We mean business”, the royal couple said and they proved to be excellent ambassadors for the Netherlands and the Dutch entrepreneurs.
Brazil has established itself as major player in global trade after the government last year introduced the Plano Brasil Maior: a large-scale program aimed at boosting the economy. The cradle of samba is now the sixth largest economy in the world and is growing with a driving rhythm, additionally supported by the organization of the football World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016.
Pontis director Dirk Jan Kootstra can look back on a succesful mission. “Our goal was to meet with potential partners and customers” he said. “In Brazil, personal contact is essential and many seeds were planted for future business. Not only have we gained new contacts with Brazilian relations, but also with our Dutch fellow entrepreneurs”.
Video blog
During the trade mission Dirk Jan kept a video blog at SME Netherlands about his experiences. An interview with Dirk Jan and the videos can be found here. The success of the mission was greatly enhanced by the huge media attention from the Netherlands and Brazil.
An ocean of opportunities for Dutch Technology
Dutch nautical businesses can significantly benefit from the booming Brazilian market. As status symbols such as luxury yachts come within reach of an increasing number of people, an ocean of opportunities promises to be waiting for this sector. But not only the Dutch smell opportunities: the Brazilians are open to the world renowned nautical expertise of the Dutch.
Together with fourteen Dutch yacht building companies Pontis took part in the maritime program of the trade mission to Brazil. During a seminar and visits to Brazilian yacht building companies, it became clear that a major role can be played by Dutch technology in the development of faster, lighter and more durable products for the yachting industry.
Pontis has already been successful in Brazil with technology transfers for the development of rotor blades. A good example of how Dutch technology can help to lay a foundation for the further development of Brazilian industry. Rotor blade technology is highly related to that of yacht building and that offers Pontis opportunities for the expansion of its activities in the Brazilian yacht building industry.
Record-breaking HUSUM WindEnergy 2012
Last month Pontis exhibited at HUSUM WindEnergy 2012. The world’s leading wind energy trade fair which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2014, set a record in its 23-year history by attracting around 36,000 visitors and 1171 exhibitors. Pontis clearly found a huge audience in Husum for its latest pre-form moulding solution and enjoyed considerable attention from visitors, press and colleagues from around the globe.
Participating, visiting and showcasing our business at international trade shows is an integral part of our business. We highly value personal contact with our clients and prospects, staying informed of the latest technological developments and keeping an open mind for inspiring and fresh ideas from others.
In November you can find us at China Wind Power 2012 (November 15-17, Beijng China) and JEC Americas 2012 in Boston, USA (November 7-9). We are looking forward to meeting you there!
