Pontis joins key wind energy players in Bremen
The 2012 “Advances in Rotor Blades for Wind Turbines” conference in Bremen, Germany was the first event to set industry benchmarks on blade design, composites and manufacturing processes. All key players in the industry such as Siemens Wind Power, SGL Rotec and Windnovation were present and its success demanded a sequel in 2013.
This year, Pontis was invited to this high end forum to share its knowledge and views on bridging design and production of next generation rotor blades. The race for ever bigger wind turbines, especially for the offshore market, is creating challenging impacts on the development of corresponding rotor blades.
Project engineer Edgar Suselbeek presented our experience in harmonizing conflicting interests in the design and manufacturing phase to achieve an optimized and customized solution. Please download his presentation here.
Master Class Offshore Wind
As we are always keen on opportunities to share our knowledge and find inspiring and fresh ideas from others, we regularly perform as speaker or trainer at (inter)national conferences and workshops.
In this context Pontis director Dirk Jan Kootstra is one of the expert trainers during the 3-day Masterclass offshore wind, organized by the Northern Netherlands Offshore Wind network (NNOW). The master class is designed for SMEs seeking to improve their knowledge and practical insight of the offshore wind supply chain.
Dirk Jan shared his expert vision on (offshore) wind energy project development & processes with over 20 entrepreneurs from the North Netherlands region. This wednesday he will act as a discussion leader in the last session of the master class.
Meet Pontis @ JEC Europe 2013
Europe’s largest and most important composites trade event will start today in Paris, France. From 12 to 14 March the global composite industry will unite in Porte de Versailles, where participants and visitors can find a full spectrum of processes, new materials and composite solutions.
Of course Pontis will be present and thanks to the hospitality of Pontis partner Saertex we will be showcasing our preform manufacturing technology. Please download our latest Preform flyer here.
We are very much looking forward to meeting you in Paris! Please visit us at booth M19 and / or contact Pontis director Dirk Jan Kootstra to schedule a meeting.
Blade infusion simulation: speeding up processes
Pontis is continuously working on new and improved manufacturing processes. With the accompanying animation we would like to show you how we use process simulations to come to the optimal strategy.
The animation shows the vacuum infusion (VARTM) of a wind turbine blade designed by Pontis Engineering, the 75 meter long TYGO blade. For the suction side of the blade a finite element method was used to compute the resin flow, and with this the resin flow front is accurately predicted and clearly visualized. The legend on the left represents the filling time of the simulated infusion, and in addition also other important properties such as pressure and possible air entrapments were thoroughly evaluated. By optimizing the injection strategy the 75 meter long blade shell is completely filled within one hour!
With our in-house software we can quickly adapt to various formats and data from our customers and asses the impact of different injection strategies, new materials and design changes for existing and new composite products. This way we optimize development of composite structures (e.g. wind turbine blades, yachts) and their processes, reducing both risks and costs. The resin flow simulation capabilities of Pontis Engineering are applied for both Resin Transfer Moulding and Vacuum Infusion, and are applicable for all composite market segments (i.e. Aerospace, Building & Construction, Marine, Transport and Renewables).
Pontis delivers high tech equipment for offshore converter stations
Germany's ambitious transformation of the energy supply system: the "Energiewende" offers a wide range of challenges and opportunities for innovative businesses in the development of new technology. And therefore for Pontis.
Recently we were commissioned to develop and deliver high tech equipment for the installation of 2 offshore converter stations (BorWin2 & HelWin1). These +30.000 Ton platforms will be installed later this year, about 150 km of the north coast of Germany. The converter stations are designed to transmit electricity generated in remote offshore wind farms to the mainland with a minimum of losses. They have to operate reliably for several decades under harsh environmental conditions.
Since 2010 Pontis has been developing expertise in logistics and transport, driven by the challenges facing the wind energy industry in transporting extremely big, heavy, sensitive and expensive wind turbine parts. We have since then developed smart transport fixtures for rotor blades from 26 to 55 meters in length for various clients worldwide and acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience. This expertise now proves to be very valuable for logistics operations in other branches such as the offshore industry.
